Today we met with Nikki Soul-Gray, Graduate Programmes Advisor for Cancer Research UK, to get an idea about what it is like working for the organisation. We talked through what the application process is for this year 2009/2010 and gained an insight into what students should expect this year.
We also had the opportunity to talk with two recent graduates working at Cancer Research UK, Andrew and David, who took us on a tour of the office and also shared their experiences of their graduate schemes so far.
Photos of the afternoon are here and we should be able to put up a few videos of the day soon!
We’re looking to build a new type of profile which allows students to gain a genuine insight in what it is like working at some of the top business in the UK. We’ve titled these overviews “social profiles” and here’s our first attempt at opening recruiters doors one.
We think the main benefits are:
You can see photos of the offices, the people you’ll be working with and the surrounding area
You can keep up to date with the latest news from Twitter, Facebook and RSS feeds
You can hear direct from recruiters in their own videos about what they are looking for in the ideal application
Would be great to hear any thoughts or feedback – we’ll be looking to launch this on the 10th August 2009.Please take a look at the link below and feeback in the comments below – thank you!
We’ve put together a list of things for you to do before you start your career. We’d love to take on your suggestions if you think we should add to it so just add your ideas (remember to provide ‘relevant’ links) in as comments and if you take up any of the challenges get some photos together and let us know!
1. Travel
Europe is always a favourite for a summer getaway but with the Euro not doing us any favours the rest of the world is more attractive than ever. We all know someone who seems to have stories about everything, go find somewhere to make them jealous!

The GradRoom has won the latest competition on Richard Branson’s personal blog! The competition is called Pitch TV and we had to submit a 60 second video describing what we do here at The GradRoom. After a month of waiting we were shortlisted to the final which meant we appeared on the blog and had to get people to vote for us…the most votes wins.
Thank you to everyone who voted and commented on the entry post – it really means a lot to us and has given us an extra boost to deliver something really cool for you over the next few months! Our entry is below and it goes out in July 2009…
